Come see our sheep get their annual haircuts and participate in many of the steps used to turn raw fleece into clothing including washing, carding, spinning, and dyeing! Continuing the tradition of animal husbandry, the Farmstead is home to heritage breed sheep that would have been familiar to the colonial farmers including Hog Island and Leicester Longwool. 


Schedule of shearing: 

11:30 AM Gus, Hog Island (from Mount Vernon)

12:30 PM Violet, Leicester Longwool

1:30 PM Eliot, Hog Island (from Mount Vernon)

2:30 PM Franklin, Leicester Longwool (from Colonial Williamsburg)


Storytime at 12 PM and 2 PM, Weaving a Rainbow. Children will have the opportunity to contribute to a tapestry weaving of a rainbow. 


Last admission 3 PM.
