Discover how an 18th century garden served as the cornerstone for survival, health, and creativity for colonial farm families.

French and Indian Day with Chester County Militia
From 1754 to 1763 the French and Indian War played out across Colonial America as the French and British fought for control of the frontier. This conflict determined not only the future of the Pennsylvania frontier but also events that put the loyal colonials on a path to revolution! Visit the French and Chester County militia campsites to learn from the soldiers about their uniforms, weapons, and strategy for fighting in the American wilderness.

Learn about the importance of water on the farm and how daily chores like getting water from the well or doing laundry were actually experiments in science and simple machines.

From Fields To Fabric
Essential in colonial households, discover how flax became interwoven into politics, global economics, and the daily dress of a nation on the path to independence. Learn about the important role Elin Kunders, and the original settlers of Germantown, played in the emerging colonial flax industry as part of the launch of “For the Common Good: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation” docuseries uncovering the powerful stories of nine pioneering Pennsylvania women who made significant contributions to the founding of the nation. Lend a hand processing flax alongside the PA Flax Project and discover the past to present story of flax in Pennsylvania.
