Shades of Sandy Flash

Special EventRegister

On long, dark nights, chilling fireside tales told of daring deeds and deadly dread. Of all ghostly, strange or outrageous tales told by the fire that populate Pennsylvania folklore, none was so popular as the tale of Sandy Flash – the Terror of Delaware County. So infamous was Sandy Flash, that the road to the Colonial Pennsylvania Farmstead, Sandy Flash Drive, is named after him. What better place to experience firsthand from victims, captors, and admirers, the story of the life and times of Sandy Flash, conjured by firelight at the Farmstead…

Saturday, October 18th - Saturday, October 25th
6:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Fairytales and Fables Day

Fairytales and fables are narratives passed down through the tradition of oral storytelling. While these stories may contain many magical and fantastical elements, they also act as little windows into life in the past. Journey throughout the Farmstead, and listen to our narrators tell family-friendly versions of old fairytales and fables while demonstrating skills from the 18th century. Along your journey, meet enchanting characters, hear bewitching stories, and collect treats and treasures. Both children and adults are invited to come in costume and bring trick-or-treating bags.

Last admission at 3 PM. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 children ages 4-12. Children under 4 and members are free.

Saturday, October 25th

17th Century Day

Europe in the 17th century has outgrown its borders. Political and religious wars on the continent and in Great Britain have catapulted its people into the modern age. The Americas have been mapped and explored for more than a century and the great Continental powers have staked their claims to the new territory. Conflict and clashes of culture are happening. Witness a period of our history that shows the expanding horizons of both Europe and America.

Last admission at 3 PM. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 children ages 4-12. Children under 4 and members are free.

Martinmas

Special Event

As autumn draws to a close, join Colonial Farmstead for Martinmas, a traditional early winter observance once known as “Old Halloween” and celebration marking the turning of the agricultural year. Observed across early modern Europe and remembered in colonial Pennsylvania, Martinmas (the Feast of St. Martin) was a time farm families readied their homes and hearths for winter. Learn about food preservation; help process wool; make a lantern and dip candles. Join us as we welcome the PA Flax Project and process flax into linen.

Join us for a lantern walk at 5:15 PM to mark the turning of the year from light to dark.

Last admission at 4 PM. Tickets are $14 for Adults, $10 Children, and $7 Members.
